It was even more beautiful than I thought! The color combination is perfect (gray/yellow) and the leather is so soft! The zipper does catch, but I find them very minimal, if at all. It was a bit tricky to think of the best way to fit my original iPad into it, so for anyone else like me with the original, if you slide the whole thing through the top strap and shimmy it down into the snug corners, it goes in practically without a hitch!
I really can’t express enough gratitude for the time Jess took with me on the phone when ordering. And the product has filled a little hole in my heart for my old planner:)

Yes, you cannot use a smart cover with this case. In order to make sure the iPad 2 itself was protected, we didn’t want to add additional room that could allow the iPad to slip out easily if the smart cover was not on it – or make the case too bulky in general since not everyone has a smart cover.
The pen holder is there for those who would like to carry pens with them. I have had a metal pen in my case for several months now and have had no scratches on my iPad screen, but this is a personal decision for each customer.
The zipper we use is a high quality brass zipper which does get loosen up pretty quickly.
All in all, I have tried my very best to create the best handmade iPad case in the USA with two craftsman in Chicago. And I am very proud of the product, price, and materials.

Lovely on the outside, but not as functional as I had hoped. You cannot use a smart cover with it. OK, so the case is the protective cover, but if you place your iPad facing out as shown, it is against the pen holder, not useful then, and whatever you might have in the credit card and other pockets.
Unzipping is not a smooth process at all if you have the iPad inside. The binding finish is nice on the outside cover, but the leather against the zipper is just the cut leather edge. I would return it but it is for store credit only. Should have read the policy first. edge.
